Railroad Unions are governed under the Railway Labor Act, with the National Mediation Board (NMB) established to handle issues around organizing rail Unions, negotiating contracts, and resolving disputes.
For many working Americans, however, their Unions are governed under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), also known as the Wagner Act. When it comes to organizing new Unions, prosecuting Unfair Labor Practices, or other labor issues, the established agency for that work within the NLRA is the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
For too many years now, NLRB has not been funded appropriately to do its work. The NLRB's budget has not been increased since 2014, leading it to have to do more work with fewer resources in this time of inflation.
Rail workers like us aren't involved in the NLRB. But, many of our Union brothers and sisters, and many working Americans, need an NLRB that is funded sufficiently to do its work in protecting their rights against greedy corporations.
The AFL-CIO has initiated a campaign to contact lawmakers and push for the NLRB to get the funding it desperately needs to handle the case load is takes on in helping millions of working Americans form Unions, fight against Unfair Labor Practices, and improve their working conditions. We can stand with them and do our part, in solidarity, by reaching out to our lawmaker and telling them to FUND THE NLRB!
TAKE ACTION NOW IN SUPPORT OF WORKING AMERICANS!
