2025 Summer Internship
Pay: $20/ hour
Schedule: MWF 8-4 PM Central Time
Internship Length: 10-12 weeks depending on school schedule
Location: Fully Remote
*Willing to work around summer classes if feasible
A candidate must:
- Have access to high-speed reliable internet
- Be the child or financial dependent of a Burlington System Division Member, children or financial dependents of full time union officers or full time staff are ineligible.
- Be currently enrolled in college, having completed at least one year of college already
Preference will be given to candidates who are:
- Pursuing labor studies or any union related degree
- Pursuing a marketing degree
A well qualified candidate will:
- Be reliable
- Be comfortable with independent work
- Have great grammar and spelling skills
- Be proficient in the Microsoft Suite (excel, powerpoint, word)
- Excel at communication
- Be willing to ask questions
Travel Required: Yes, July 28, 2025 to August 01, 2025 for our Training Seminar in Omaha, NE (this week will be 40 hours) travel expenses and accommodations will be covered by the Burlington System Division.
College Credit: Potentially. We are willing to work with your college/university to complete their assessments to give you college credit. However, we cannot guarantee that it will be accepted as different schools are likely to have different requirements that this position/our Organization may not meet.
Job Duties:
- Administrative duties including but not limited to answering phones, electronically filing documents, updating Membership profiles, and proofreading important documents.
- Inputting past and current contracting notices into a contracting out tracking system.
- Assist in the creation and distribution of grievance case correspondence.
- Assist with the intake of all summer new hires, including but not limited to creating profiles, tracking dues payments, and sending correspondence.
- Independently manage, update, and improve our social media presence (mainly Facebook) and our website.
- Participate in scheduled weekly meetings with the officers and staff, take notes in meetings as needed by officers.
- Prepare for, travel to, and help conduct the annual training seminar in July.
- Provide assistance as needed to fix or help fix any technological or internet issues.
- Provide input on special System projects if and/or when they may arise during your internship.

- Resumes will be redacted of all personal or identifying information (name, phone numbers, addresses, locations schools/places of work, etc.) before they are viewed by the hiring committee.
- The hiring committee will review the redacted resumes and determine which applicants will receive a virtual interview via Zoom. Those candidates selected for interviews will be contacted to set up a Zoom interview sometime between December 09-13, 2024. Applicants not selected for interviews will be notified that their application has been denied at this time.
- After all interviews are held, the hiring committee will make their selection. The selected applicant will be contacted and given the opportunity to accept the position. Once they accept, the Burlington System Division will let all other applicants know their application was denied. If they do not accept, the hiring committee will offer the position to the next runner up. Final decisions should be made by December 20, 2024.
- The applicant awarded the job will stay in contact with the Burlington System Division throughout the coming months to set up and prepare for their internship. This will include discussing start/end dates and scheduling as well as the distribution of technology so work can begin on day one.
