October 14, 2024 - NS Ratifies TA & CSX Rejects TA

BMWED members on Norfolk Southern have ratified a new agreement, while members on CSX rejected a tentative agreement in separate votes on October 14.

For Norfolk Southern, the agreement was ratified by a vote of 710-480 (59.66%), with 11 blank votes. This five-year agreement includes General Wage Increases (GWIs) compounded to 18.77% over the contract's duration, a reduction in vacation accrual time, and enhanced health and welfare benefits, maintaining the current 15% monthly employee contribution, among other improvements. To learn more about the ratified CBA, visit bmwe.org/ta. The GWIs will be applied annually on July 1, starting next year and ending in 2029, with the first GWI at 4.0%, followed by 3.75%, 3.5%, 3.25%, and 3.0% in subsequent years. Of the 3,144 eligible BMWED NS voters, 1,201 returned ballots.

On the other hand, BMWED members on CSX rejected a tentative agreement by a vote of 1,330-616 (68.35%), with 23 blank votes. Out of 4,186 eligible voters, 1,969 returned ballots. As a result, the tentative agreement did not ratify.

At this time, it is unclear how these mixed results may affect National Bargaining.
